WEROAM SAFETY

A LETTER ABOUT SAFETY

Safety is one of the most important considerations when planning our expeditions. While the countries we choose are generally safe for travelers, we never take that at face value. We constantly monitor conditions, conduct in-depth research, and make decisions based on the best and most current information available.

If at any point we determine that extra security is required, we will hire it. If we ever determine that a destination is not safe, we will cancel it. Safety always comes before adventure.

Our research goes well beyond government travel advisories. While those provide a helpful starting point, we gather information from many different sources — blogs, videos, online communities, local contacts, and experienced riders — often 10–15 unique perspectives per destination. This helps us understand the on-the-ground reality, not just broad advisory warnings.

BUILDING HIGHLY SKILLED TEAMS

We do everything we can to build teams with diverse and valuable skills. Riders with medical or mechanical expertise are given priority when joining expeditions, so the group has built-in resources. We also travel with extensive medical and mechanical kits to support us along the way.

As of 2026, all WeRoam Expeditioners will be fully vetted.

This means riders will have either:

Successfully completed a prior expedition (2025 or earlier), or

Successfully completed a training camp where they qualified at the level of riding required for the expedition and received medical and mechanical training.

We actively build personal connections in each country before we arrive — from bike rental partners to local riders to accommodations that are friendly to travelers. These allies give us insight into the safest routes, areas to avoid, and trusted networks we can rely on.

EYES ON US

We work closely with Global Rescue, sharing when and where we’re traveling, and checking in at multiple points each day. Our teams carry satellite devices so that multiple parties can track us at all times. We also share our planned routes in advance and update them on any changes.

A key rule is that no one ever goes anywhere alone. There is always power and safety in numbers.

COMMUNICATION ON THE ROAD

On all international expeditions, Cardo Packtalk communication devices are mandatory. These allow our riders to stay in constant contact while on the road — whether to flag a hazard, coordinate regrouping, or simply confirm that everyone is on the correct route.

Clear communication helps ensure the team moves together, responds quickly to changing conditions, and that no one is ever left behind.

ACCOUNTABILITY & CHOICE

We believe in accountability and respect each rider’s ability to make the best decision for themselves. If a destination doesn’t feel right for you, we honor that choice. Our role is not to convince anyone otherwise but to ensure our commitment to safety is clear and transparent.

Beginning in 2026, participation in expeditions will also require that every rider be fully vetted. This means you will have either successfully completed a prior expedition (2025 or earlier), or successfully completed a training camp where you qualified at the level of riding required for the expedition and received medical and mechanical training. These standards ensure that every member of the team is both capable and prepared, which enhances safety for the entire group.

We’ve also created Expedition Briefs for each country. These are high-level synopses of the resources we consulted — government advisories, firsthand accounts, local contacts, and more. They are provided in advance of sign-ups so each rider can make an informed decision about whether they feel comfortable joining.

FINDING BALANCE

Adventure means stepping into the unknown — but how women travel is different from how men travel, and we embrace that difference. While we want to provide a true expedition experience, our mission is also to ensure that every rider ends each day in a safe and secure environment.

We are not a tour company and never will be. Tours often provide a fully protected experience, which works well for many travelers. Our vision is different: we strive to create expeditions that balance adventure with safety, giving women the confidence to explore while knowing we are doing everything possible to keep them safe.

We hope this makes clear how seriously we take safety while also staying true to our spirit of adventure. If you have questions, ideas, or concerns — especially about safety — we are always open to conversation.

With care,
The WeRoam Team
